Silver gilt lidded tankard ca 1600 with “stippled”  / frequently used decoration using a specially designed chasing tool to create an effect reminiscent of ray skin / . This decoration was used from the very end of the sixteenth century to the beginning of the eighteenth century mainly in Central Europe / Germany, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland /

The tankard is fire gilt , with an early “thumb piece” and a cast handle. The type of cast and turned finial is also point to the piece being early. The finial unscrews and it is holding a gilt and engraved disc on the inside. The disc is engraved with a Coats of Arms, surrounded bu a fairly typical Hungarian wheksheaf .   Marked on the underside with an inches punch, and another mark -probably an angel with wings. Probably Hungary ca 1600
